What are the different keying options?

KEYED ALIKE - One key
to fit all the locks purchased for single location. Under
a Keyed Alike system, all the locks are keyed the same; thus,
any key will open any lock. After the security lock kits are
installed, a supervisor, manager, IT person (not the end user)
keeps as many keys as needed. The task of managing the keys
is much simpler if all the keys are the same. |

|
KEYED DIFFERENTLY – Each key is unique
to a lock and will not open other locks. Under a
Keyed Differently
system, customers can order a unique key for each lock. This
option is best for customers who need each user to have access
to the lock and who does not need a key recovery system. |

|
MASTER KEYED – Locks can be keyed alike
or keyed different , but a master key can be used to open any
lock in the purchase. Preferred method for larger customers
who need to have both users and managers have access to the locks. For
example, a school district may want the desktops keyed alike
and their notebooks keyed different. This allows individuals
to secure their own equipment while the IT manager has control
of all equipment and data. The Master Key is capable of
unlocking any of the locks. This option should be used when the
end user retains the keys or for maximum security. In the event
that an end user leaves the company or loses his/her keys, a
supervisor can unlock the lock with the Master Key. Limited
down time with
key loss or personnel changes. |
How do I know what keying option is best for my company?
Cyclone offers the flexibility to determine how keys should be assigned
to the locks used by the organizations and provides various levels
of access to the locked equipment.
How do you decide which keyed solution
works for your organization?
We have listed the most common situations below
with the best keying option for that situation.
- I want employees to have their own unique
keys, but I still need access to every lock. – Master Keyed
(Each user keeps their individual key, but you control the Master
Key)
- I need the flexibility for all employees
to have access to all equipment – Keyed Alike (Every key
opens every lock, so anyone can open any lock)
- I want to be the only one who can unlock
our stationary office computers – Master Keyed (You control the Master Key and don’t
provide the individual keys to
each user)
- I want different departments and locations
to have a unique key, but I still need access to every lock at
all locations. – Master
Keyed (Each department or location
can be set-up with their own keyed alike number and then you are
provided with a master key that can open any of the locks)
- I want all our office equipment locks i.e.
notebooks ,desktops, projectors which might require different locks
on all one master key. – Master Keyed (Each lock can be keyed
different and then a master key provided for each access to all
equipment)
- If your situation doesn’t match any
of the 5 options listed above, please contact your sales rep and
